Jorge Luis Borges & friends
If only heβd been alive to see it.
The birth of a machine that could create a thing from a word, as heβd predicted.
A time when reality and dreams collide; when itβs getting impossible to tell the true from the fake.
The spirit of Borges and his writing infuses much of what we see in emergent technology and the role it plays in writing and art.
Because now is the era of magic realists.

A little over 100 years ago, Borges and a few confederates rebelled against the creative standards of the day, and called for new forms that rejected the past and found new expression more fitting for the age, that saw the world through prisms instead of mirrors.
They called themselves Ultraists.
In a pleasing coincidence, I discovered a little later that they ran a newsletter during this period, almost exactly a century go.
The name of the newsletter was βULTRAβ.
